Supriya Prasanta (née Supriya Kar) is a painter, writer and translator from Bhubaneswar, Odisha. She studied English literature and Sociology at Ramadevi Women’s College, Bhubaneswar. She post-graduated in English literature and went on to earn her doctoral degree in translation from Utkal University in 2010. A former editor at Cambridge University Press India, she has received the Charles Wallace India Translation Visiting Fellowship in 2008 along with a residency at British Centre for Literary Translation, UK. She was offered the Junior fellowship by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India from 2008-2010 for her research on Odia women’s writing.

Her Odia books include two novels -- Kuhuka bela and Asamapta; a short story collection, Barakatha, and a research book on Odia women’s autobiographical writings, Atmamagna.  

She has translated a number of Odia classics into English, which include Upendra Kishore Das’ Malaajahna (The Dying Moon, Rupantar 2006), Mohapatra Nilamoni Sahoo’s Abhishapta Gandharva (The Fallen Gandharva and Other Stories, Odisha Sahitya Akademi, 2016). She has rendered the 15th century Odia Mahabharata by Sarala Das into modern prose narratives in Odia and English. She has also edited and collaborated on several women’s writing anthologies that include One Step towards the Sun (Rupantar, 2010; coeditor: Valerie Henitiuk), Spark of Light (Athabasca University Press 2016; coeditor: Valerie Henitiuk), Burning Mountains (Dhauli Books, 2018), Contours of Salvation (Timepass, 2019), and The Memory Makers: Women Autobiographers of Odisha (2023). ସୁପ୍ରିୟା ପ୍ରଶାନ୍ତ (ଜନ୍ମ: ୨୮ ଜୁନ୍ ୧୯୭୯, ଯାଜପୁର, ଓଡିଶା) ଇଂରାଜୀ ସାହିତ୍ୟ ଓ ସମାଜବିଜ୍ଞାନରେ ଆନୁଷ୍ଠାନିକ ଶିକ୍ଷାପ୍ରାପ୍ତ। କଲେଜ ଅଫ୍ ଇଞ୍ଜିନିୟରିଙ୍ଗ ଆଣ୍ଡ ଟେକ୍ନୋଲୋଜି, ଭୁବନେଶ୍ୱରରେ କିଛି ବର୍ଷ ଇଂରାଜୀ ଅଧ୍ୟାପନା ପରେ ଅନୁବାଦ ସାହିତ୍ୟରେ ଗବେଷଣା ପାଇଁ ଉତ୍କଳ ବିଶ୍ୱବିଦ୍ୟାଳୟରୁ ଡକ୍ଟରେଟ୍ (୨୦୦୭-୨୦୧୦) ଲାଭ କରିଛନ୍ତି; ଏହା ପରେ କେମ୍ବ୍ରିଜ ୟୁନିଭରସିଟି ପ୍ରେସ, ଭାରତରେ ସଂପାଦକ ରୂପେ କାର୍ଯ୍ୟନିର୍ବାହ କରିଛନ୍ତି। ଅସୁସ୍ଥତା କାରଣରୁ ବୃତ୍ତି, ପାରିବାରିକ ଦାୟିତ୍ୱ ଓ ସୃଜନ ମଧ୍ୟରେ ସନ୍ତୁଳନ ରକ୍ଷା କରିବାରେ ଅସଫଳ ହେବା ଆଶଙ୍କା କରି ସ୍ଥାୟୀ ଚାକିରୀ ଛାଡିବାର ନିଷ୍ପତ୍ତି ନେଇଛନ୍ତି।   

ସେ ଓଡିଆରେ ଦୁଇଟି ଉପନ୍ୟାସ ‘କୁହୁକ ବେଳା’ ଓ ‘ଅସମାପ୍ତ’, ଗୋଟେ କ୍ଷୁଦ୍ରଗଳ୍ପ ସଂକଳନ ‘ବାରକଥା’ ଏବଂ ଓଡିଆ ନାରୀ ଆତ୍ମଜୀବନୀ ଉପରେ ଗବେଷଣା ବହି ‘ଆତ୍ମମଗ୍ନା’ ଲେଖିଛନ୍ତି। ଓଡିଆ ନାରୀ ଆତ୍ମଜୀବନୀ ସାହିତ୍ୟ ଗବେଷଣା ପାଇଁ ତାଙ୍କୁ ସଂସ୍କୃତି ମନ୍ତ୍ରଣାଳୟ, ଭାରତ ସରକାରଙ୍କଠାରୁ ଜୁନିଅର ଫେଲୋଶିପ (୨୦୦୮-୨୦୧୦) ଏବଂ ବଙ୍ଗଳା ନାରୀ ସାହିତ୍ୟ ଅଧ୍ୟୟନ ପାଇଁ ସ୍କୁଲ ଅଫ୍ ଉଇମେନ୍ସ ଷ୍ଟଡିଜ, ଯାଦବପୁର ୟୁନିଭରସିଟିରୁ ସାର୍ ରତନଟାଟା ଲାଇବ୍ରେରୀ ଫେଲୋଶିପ (୨୦୦୯) ମିଳିଛି।

ତାଙ୍କର ଓଡିଆରୁ ଇଂରାଜୀକୁ ଅନୁବାଦ ବହି ମଧ୍ୟରେ ରହିଛି — ଉପେନ୍ଦ୍ର କିଶୋର ଦାସଙ୍କର ‘ମଲାଜହ୍ନ’ (The Dying Moon), ମହାପାତ୍ର ନୀଳମଣି ସାହୁଙ୍କ ‘ଅଭିଶପ୍ତ ଗନ୍ଧର୍ବ’ (The Fallen Demigod and Other Stories), ସୌରୀବନ୍ଧୁ କରଙ୍କ ଗଳ୍ପ (Stories), ଗାୟତ୍ରୀ ସରାଫଙ୍କର ଗଳ୍ପ (Burning Mountains), ଏବଂ ଚିରଶ୍ରୀ ଇନ୍ଦ୍ରସିଂଙ୍କ ଗଳ୍ପ (Contours of Salvation and Other Stories)। ଏହା ବ୍ୟତୀତ ରହିଛି ତେଇଶଟି ଓଡିଆ ନାରୀ ଆତ୍ମଜୀବନୀରୁ ନିର୍ବାଚିତ ଅଂଶର ଅନୁବାଦ ବହି –The Memory Makers: Women Autobiographers of Odisha। ସେ ଭାଲେରି ହେନିଟିଉକ (ପୂର୍ବତନ ନିର୍ଦ୍ଦେଶକ, ବ୍ରିଟିଶ ସେଣ୍ଟର ଫର ଲିଟରାରୀ ଟ୍ରାନ୍ସଲେସନ)ଙ୍କ ସହ ମିଶି ଓଡିଆ ଲେଖିକାଙ୍କର ଦୁଇଟି ଗଳ୍ପ ସଂକଳନ, One Step towards the Sun ଓ Spark of Light  ସଂପାଦନା କରିଛନ୍ତି। ଓଡିଆରୁ ଇଂରାଜୀ ଅନୁବାଦ ପାଇଁ ତାଙ୍କୁ ଚାର୍ଲ୍ସ ୱାଲେସ ଟ୍ରଷ୍ଟ ଅନୁବାଦ ଫେଲୋଶିପ (୨୦୦୮) ତଥା ବ୍ରିଟିଶ ସେଣ୍ଟର ଫର ଲିଟରାରୀ ଟ୍ରାନ୍ସଲେସନ, ଇଂଲଣ୍ଡରେ ରହି ଅନୁବାଦ କାର୍ଯ୍ୟ କରିବାର ସୁଯୋଗ ମିଳିଛି। ବର୍ତ୍ତମାନ ପ୍ରକାଶ ଅପେକ୍ଷାରେ ରହିଛି ତାଙ୍କ ଲିଖିତ ସାରଳା ମହାଭାରତର ଇଂରାଜୀ ଅନୁସୃଜନ - Odia Mahabharata : A Modern Retelling। ଓଡିଆ, ଇଂରାଜୀ, ହିନ୍ଦୀ, ସଂସ୍କୃତ ଓ ବଙ୍ଗଳା ଭାଷାରେ ବ୍ୟବହାରିକ ଦକ୍ଷତା ରଖିଥିବା ସୁପ୍ରିୟା ବିଶ୍ୱ ସାହିତ୍ୟ ପଢିବାରେ ବିଶେଷ ରୁଚି ରଖନ୍ତି।
